LEGACY 2022 – AIA CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN: FROM VISION TO REALITY

(Palm Beach County, FL) — David Erik Chase, AIA, President of the AIA Palm Beach Foundation for Architecture, is pleased to announce that plans for Palm Beach County’s new Legacy 2022 Architectural Center are moving forward. During the Foundation’s annual “visioning session” on March 6 at the offices of Currie Sowards Aguila Architects in Delray Beach, Foundation board members focused on strategic ways to create and maintain the proposed new architectural center in Palm Beach County. Chaired by Denise Bas, AIA, session participants included Foundation Trustees along with past AIA Chapter Presidents and guests.
The purpose of the AIA Center for Architecture & Design will be “to advance the understanding and significance of Architecture and design in Palm Beach County and the world around us.” To donate, volunteer, or for more information go to aiapbfa.org.

AIA PALM BEACH FOUNDATION LOOKS BACK AT 2019 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

(West Palm Beach, FL) — The AIA Palm Beach Foundation held its annual meeting December 5, 2019 at the Palm Beach Yacht Club. A review of the 2019 accomplishments included discussion of three architectural student scholarships awards, and a celebration of the successful 5th Annual Golf Tournament to raise additional scholarship funds. The Foundation also established incremental 2020 goals for building the new Legacy 2022 Architectural Center. All trustees were re-elected for a new two-year term beginning January 1, 2020 including: David Erik Chase, AIA, President; Jess Sowards, AIA, Secretary; John Kronawitter, AIA, Trustee; Tiery Boykin, AIA, Treasurer; Cynthia Spray, AIA, Trustee; and Vicki Soderlund, AIA, Trustee.

DAVID ERIK CHASE, AIA, RECEIVES 2019 JOHN STETSON, FAIA AWARD

David Erik Chase, AIA, received the American Institute of Architects John Stetson, FAIA Award by the Palm Beach AIA Chapter at the November 19, 2019 AIA Chapter Honor Awards Gala. The award is given each year to honor a member “for outstanding service to the chapter which is over and above that normally required of a member to the AIA.”
As a member of AIA Palm Beach since 2010, serving as a member of the Board of Directors from 2011 -2019, President and trustee of the AIA Palm Beach Foundation for Architecture and past State Director of AIA Florida, this is the second time Mr. Chase has been honored to receive the John Stetson, FAIA Award.
Mr. Chase is a licensed architect in 21 states. In addition to his architectural practice, he is an experienced Construction Forensic Expert Witness, Mediator, and Arbitrator with more than 100 past and present case assignments in 10 states. Mr. Chase’s long career includes having served as President and CEO of one of the largest Architectural firms in the USA. Mr. Chase is currently licensed to practice Architecture in 21 states and has been responsible for the design and construction of more than $1 billion dollars in institutional, commercial, educational, and housing projects as: President, CEO, COO, Architect-of-Record, Designer, Specifier, Project Manager, and Principal-in-Charge. A graduate of Columbia University, where he received his Master of Science degree in Architecture, Mr. Chase has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Syracuse University and studied at the École des Beaux Arts, Fontainebleau, France. FAIA, designer of the currently under construction condominium building at 2000 South Ocean Blvd. in Hallandale Beach, will be an AIA Palm Beach Chapter guest lecturer Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Hilton West Palm Beach, 600 Okeechobee Blvd., at 2:00 pm, with a wine and cheese reception following at 3:00 pm.
“It is indeed an honor and a privilege for our AIA Palm Beach Foundation for Architecture to be a Gold Sponsor hosting Mr. Norten, who has impacted the world with his creative genius and dedication to design,” said Foundation President David Erik Chase.
Mr. Norten’s career spans over 30 years. In addition to receiving the “Legacy Award” from the Smithsonian Institution in 2007 for his contribution to the arts and culture in the U.S., he also was awarded the “Excellence in Architecture and Design Award” by PODER – Boston Consulting Group Business Awards in 2008.
A Master of Architecture from Cornell University, Mr. Norten is the Elliot Noyes Visiting Design Critic at Harvard University, and has been a visiting professor at Cornell, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, Yale School of Architecture, and Columbia University, among others. In 1986 he founded TEN Arquitectos in Mexico City, initiating a lifelong commitment to architecture and design.

On December 19, 2018, the AIA Palm Beach Foundation for Architecture, Inc. held its first annual meeting at the Palm Beach Yacht Club. In attendance were the six trustees: David E. Chase, AIA, Foundation President; Tiery Boykin, AIA, President, AIA Palm Beach; Jess Sowards, AIA, Past President, AIA Palm Beach; Vicki Soderlund, AIA, Past President, AIA Palm Beach; and Cynthia Spray, AIA, Past President, AIA Palm Beach. The 2018 first-year accomplishments were highlighted by awarding three architectural student scholarships and the formation of a “Legacy 2022 Committee,” co-chaired by AIA Palm Beach Chapter Past Presidents Vicki Soderlund and Cynthia Spray. The committee will work to facilitate a Palm Beach Architectural Center in 2022 to house a multi-purpose building that will serve as both a public resource (hosting art/architecture/sculpture/etc. events, exhibitions, and lectures) as well as a permanent venue for AIA Palm Beach Chapter and Foundation meetings and events.

DAVID ERIK CHASE AIA PALM BEACH TALK GOES INTO OVERTIME

Palm Beach, FL – June 9, 2018) — David Erik Chase, AIA, President of Chase A+EP, pc, presented the topic, “Why Are Architects Targets of Opportunity?” to AIA Palm Beach’s Small Firms Roundtable on June 9, 2018 in City Place, West Palm Beach, FL. In his discussion, Mr. Chase identified threats and practice management tools which can be used to minimize liability in the all too frequently encountered architectural forensic practice risks that architects engage in their professional endeavors.
A licensed architect for more than 50 years in 21 states, Florida Supreme Court Qualified Arbitrator, Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator, and Architectural Expert Witness, with more than 80 representations, engaged in the attendee discussions at the end of his presentation, doubling the length of time dedicated to his scheduled appearance.

AIA FLORIDA SELECTS DAVID ERIK CHASE FOR 2016 CITIZEN ARCHITECT AWARD

(PALM BEACH, FL) – AIA Florida recently announced its recipients of the 2016 AIA Florida Citizen Architect award, and named David E. Chase of West Palm Beach, Florida as one of six Florida architects to be honored. AIA Florida “recognizes those who have contributed to their communities through service on not-for-profit boards, governmental offices or boards, design charrettes or any other effort that demonstrates the leadership of the architect as a citizen in the community.”
Licensed to practice architecture in 21 states, Mr. Chase is an experienced construction forensic expert witness, mediator, and arbitrator with over 60 case assignments. He has been responsible for approximately $1 billion of constructed projects as designer, interior designer, specifier, project manager, architect-of-record and / or principal-in-charge.
In addition to being a member of more than a dozen professional organizations, he has served on numerous boards of directors, and currently serves as a member of the Palm Beach County Building Code Advisory Board. His years of public service played an integral role in being selected by AIA Florida as a 2016 Citizen Architect. “…AIA Florida is actively seeking to identify and recognize those members who in their daily lives are playing an important part in shaping the world through their leadership.”
